DECEMBER 2019

Precious lake summer joy
blue face twinkles
on this brisk winter day
your burned mountains
now gracefully draped
by winter's snowy cape
sleep well this cold season
may your mountains drink deeply
may new life return once more
already first green spikes
rise bravely greeting the winter sun

Seems only yesterday
our bench was blissfully warm
basking...faces to the sun
bleak winter claims it now
memories of sunny days linger
harsh call of a solitary raven
suddenly shatters the stillness
we slowly retrace our steps
leaving more tracks in the glistening snow

Water spirit's shadow
words of wisdom falling
fluidly from his lips

Morning sunlight
kissing the treetops
warm golden glow

Last breakfast of the year
heat sizzles delightfully on the tongue
going out with a bang

NOVEMBER 2019

Way up high
delicate fragile shells
all that remains
succulent interiors gobbled up
first by birds than by hungry wasps

Thirst for water
satisfied at long last
green turns pale gold
little lemon tree wears pajamas
during the first cold nights of autumn

Glorious red
pineapple sage
defies autumn
red hot blossoms burst
one slim stem after another

Strange creature
who ate our pepper plant
we saw you resting
wondering if you were ready
only to find you suddenly gone

Seems only days ago
you graced a pale rose sky
still slim that night
now growing by leaps and bounds
quarter moon tonight says our calendar
smiling down on this dear earth
you give us hope

Ominous evening sky
visions of the apocalypse
another fiery sunset
reminder of our changing climate
afraid we are hurtling toward oblivion

OCTOBER 2019

Crisp
cool air
golden leaves tremble
then spiral down gracefully
AUTUMN

Strange
little poems
don't always rhyme
delightful word play teases
ELFJE
***
Toasty
sitting lazily
near the fire
too cold outside yet
PROCRASTINATION
***
Flitting
darting about
often playing tricks
sporting cheeky mischievous grins
FAIRIES

Orange
glowing brightly
embraced by pines
on her splendid ascent
LUNA

Harvest
moon
rises serenely
glowing bright orange
illuminating deep velvet heavens
this magical vision never grows old

SEPTEMBER 2019

Lithe elegant creature
wearing a metallic green gown
early morning runway beauty

Delicate layers
mark the end of another day
delicious sorbet sky

Merely a pest to some
yet what a delight
to find a solitary survivor
having escaped the clever fingers
of the night time raiders
raccoons leave no stone unturned
no planter dug up
no fishpond torn to bits
pieces of waterlily leaves
floating on the still water
endearing faces for sure
but oh the havoc they create
under cover of night
all in their search of tasty morsels

Painted ladies
dancing in tandem
sipping deeply
savoring blooming savory

During the dry season
we have to make our own rain
our garden gratefully
absorbs every glistening drop

***

A flurry of Elfje

Suddenly
rather shocking
taken by surprise
how could this happen
HEART ATTACK

Pale
lying silently
attached to hoses
batteries of blinking lights
RECOVERING

Cautious
first steps
taken very slowly
pale but yet determined
WALKING

Rosy
color returning
eyes are twinkling
he returns to us
HEALING

***
Slowly
one
poem
then two
words are flowing
getting my groove back
***
Smoke
curls
lazily
drifting down
into the garden
peaceful gilded autumn morning
***
Flock of sparrows
splashing in the fountain
morning bath
***
Stolen moments
under cover of darkness
pre-dawn solitude
***
Sweet scent of petrichor
fierce pounding on the roof
first autumn rain
***
Three loads of laundry
freshly baked muffins
getting my groove back

AUGUST 2019

First rays of the sun
spill on my table
morning thoughts

***

Rising at three
solitary meteor
zooms past the moon

Defying horrendous heat
delicate petals unfurl
moment of zen

***

Glowing
busily pecking
hopping up down
grooming long slender branches
GOLDFINCH

***

To the far west
red bellied clouds drift north
tail end of the storm

With lush purple ink
red dragon journal captures
daily mindful moments

***

Scent of coffee
flirting with chocolate
afternoon brownies

***

Arched silvered branches
embrace a pale crescent moon
bird's last sleepy notes

***

Delicious cool morning
sudden thunder
happy dog stampede

***

Silver crescent
in a pale blue sky
dance of the dragonflies

Covering your bright raisin eyes
with delectable cream-cheese and jam
I dream of a farm house in Tuscany

***

He shakes his head
eyes burning with unshed tears
for the country he loves

***

Lightly kissed with Pico Fruta
glistening chunks of watermelon
HYDRATE!!

JULY 2019

Roadside beauty
waving as we pass
sea foam blue

Mother and child
side by side
thrive little one

Along the road side
eerie red glow
fairy forest

HENRY MILLER 2007-2019

***

On the far side of rainbow bridge
Tess is eagerly waiting
eyes shining bright tail wagging
something called her here
on this special summer day
then she spots first movement
familiar striped furry form
wearing white sock saunters across
they meet Henry butts heads as is
his custom Tess gives her feline friend
a good washing making him purr loudly
greetings now over they leave side by side

***

Broken heart pain
now matched
by aching backs
he's laid to rest
after hours of digging
and hauling of rocks
deep from the bowels
of the unyielding earth
we tucked him tenderly
said our final goodbyes
resting on a bed of hay
velvety mullein fragrant sage
small mulberry planted
along the curve of his back
atop his grave sprigs of rosemary
one heart shaped rock
nearby Kwan Yin sits in silent vigil
at her feet offerings along
with thanks for watching over him
farewell dear boy may you find
peace and joy on the other side
may we meet up once again one day

Today I wore my mother's pearls
but not to worry
she's not gone still hale and hearty
as I looked into the mirror
they looked so prim and proper
like something from the sixties
mom's sixties era of Chanel suits
my era on the other hand
was a whole nuther kettle of fish
hippie beads and patchouli
swirly long skirts peasant blouses
you get the drift no doubt
poor pearls needed an outing
some skin contact to make them glow
paired with my long mermaid dress
and a tribal mother of pearl pendant
two eras worn side by side
didn't look half bad I was still Evi
not oh so prim and proper Evelyn
mom tried pouring me into her mold
long ago...with little success I might add

Quite some time ago
while visiting a talented friend
this cabochon of Moss Agate chose me
delicate druzy clusters frame tiny windows
one could almost imagine that peering
through them would allow a peek
into another more magical dimension
rather fanciful I know but I've always
been a daydreamer to be perfectly honest
this lovely cabochon is now back in my hands
skillfully wrapped in strands of shiny silver
edged by a delicate gossamer web spun by
creative artistic human hands to such perfection

***

This morning
with two loads of wash
dancing on the line
still two more awaiting
their turn in the wings
moving the sprinkler
now and then all while
gazing up at a cerulean blue sky
where jet streams curl
in between icy cirrus veils
jays screech endlessly
high in the pine squirrel dissects
bright green cones
sprinkling the ground below
with fragrant sticky curls
how ever do they get the sap
off their furry faces and tiny paws

Bold red dragon crossed the big wide sea
landed safely very close to me
greedily guards his hoard of glittering gold
just as is written in tales of old
though fear not friends this beast is tame
listen very closely let me explain
he's but a cover of a nicely bound book
I opened it and had a look
lovely sketches and quotes as well
with many blank pages for tales to tell
knowing just the proper tool I think
my fountain pen filled with purple ink
surely dragon's blood is just that shade
will I find the courage before it's too late
perfect empty pages stopped me in the past
let's hope my courage grows...success at last!?

Shrieking Jays
bold flashes
of brilliant blue

***
How delicious
early morning breeze
inhale....exhale

Jupiter bright light in the night sky
keeping company with Luna
close up you look a bit fuzzy
mysteries not seen with the naked eye
many moons and swirling rings
red eye a storm raging for centuries
first noted in ancient Babylon
given the name of gods lost in time
Jupiter..Zeus...Marduk...Thor
many light years away it's hard to imagine
how you literally dwarf our own planet
tiny speck in the Universe that we are
in comparison to your own enormous girth
seeing you way up there a reminder
of our own insignificance in the scheme of things

***

Neon pink sky
such awesome beauty
yet it comes at a terrible cost
up north forests stand aflame

***

Now golden shimmering haze
settles on the ridges
nature in all of her glory

Have you ever made a wish
on a head of romaine
or do you wish to romaine anonymous

Shrieking Jays
bold flashes
of brilliant blue

JUNE 2019

On the shores of Bear Pond
fluffy chicks waddle
following their parents
into the cool green
cattle are long gone now
pond lies peacefully
nurturing and nourishing life

One fledgling
teetering on the edge
soon taking flight

Glistening droplets
tremble on orange satin
brief morning shower

Turning his head
raven's eye sees all
even the past
is no mystery to his kind
yet for now he's in the moment
harsh cronk fills the air
announcing his satiny presence

***

 Pale amber face
framed in sacred oak
strawberry moon

Golden pool
spills across the sky
full moon rising

Full Moon
why the sudden urge
to throw back my head
under her silver light they run
loping with the pack in a black and white dream

Beloved Tess 2005-2019

Today she took her last morning ride
though no grinning face with tongue lolling
could be seen in the side mirrors
her riding partner stood by the gate
sad eyed begging to ride along
as was their habit each and every day
not understanding that her beloved friend
was laid out in state across the backseat
in her somewhat doggy scented chariot
yesterday's drool marks yet to be removed
liberally streaking the country road dust
both of us in the front seat sleep deprived
teary eyed in utter disbelief at this
sudden dreadful early morning departure
absentmindedly stroking her now cool
lifeless flank her eyes wide open as if
looking into the next dimension
handing her into caring hands who covered
her gently after lifting her from her deathbed
next week we'll pick up her ashes ...it still seems surreal

Outside the kitchen window
red knight holds silent vigil
russet armor shining

Staid Privet suddenly
explodes in creamy splendour
bees hum golden trousered

In dappled shade
calla lily blushes delicately
memories of Felix
rise along with her blossoms
he was just a stray
we could not save in time
long gone but never forgotten

Celestial mystery
high in the azure sky
mysterious egg shapeshifts

We brought her home again today
her slender, furry body
now held in the palm of my hand
final chapter of her life
precious memories held close
we smile teary eyed as we carry
her to the truck one last time
rest well, dear brown eyed girl
until we meet once more
on the far side of rainbow bridge

MAY 2019

Splendid May roses
heavy heads bowed gracefully
bee's nirvana

Shiny
red spheres
twinkled between branches
luscious burst of flavor
TOMATOES

Silvery crescent
new again yet never growing old
bluelicious night

Slender agile body
dances in blossoms heart
wild bee delight

Pearlescent
shining moons
unfurl their gowns
heavenly scented balmy nights
Philadelphus

***
Looking into the mirror
gazing at my image
seeing a familiar stranger

Crinkled
rosé crepe
delicate yet strong
underestimated like most women
ROCKROSE

Beneath a haloed moon
night garden breathes
exhaling rain bruised honeysuckle
and snow philadelphus
greedily inhaling I savor the night

Caramel Flan rose
morphing from maiden
to mother to fading crone
such beauty at all of her stages
nature's lesson...embrace yourself!

Slipping in then out of sight
on this storm tossed night
Luna's celestial dance of veils

Seeking refuge from the storm
glittering jewels arrive
battle at the feeder ensues
high squeaks daring dives
delighted to offer them shelter

Heart of a rose
yearning to dive deep
tasting sweetness

Sapphire goblets
sway in the breeze
hark..did you hear it
was that a fairy's sneeze??

Dainty Custard cups
dot the fading green
Mariposa lilies
more then we've ever seen
winter rains still offering gifts

Frothy skies
whipped into a frenzy
storm heralds

Delicate droplets
translucent spheres
tears of joy
savoring late May rains
celebration in living color

Out of the corner of my eye
sudden movement
bright eyed spy peers at me
deep in the heart
of the big striped rose
my pruning evidently
disturbed his splendid solitude

Brushing against
my cat-headed Salvia
her scent brings
with it instant memories
of a morning spend
sitting leisurely
basking in the morning sun
sipping Cafe Mocha
eating delectable pastries
celebrating Richard's birthday
just a few years ago
funny how a scent alone
can cause one to reminisce
bringing one right back to that moment

***

Scent of Patchouli
instant time travel
back to the early 70's
endless days spend
on Ibizan beaches
shimmering Med at my feet
listening to "Lady of the Island"

Unexpected gift
made my heart sing
dear Bear immortalized
who knew that some companies
have such big generous hearts
