Rainy day in May
rain drops slip down
Tropicana's broad leaves
she drinks deeply

Tiny Tiger
Open, trusting child's face
undaunted, she looks bravely
toward a bright, new future
fate in her favor today
rescued from the wrong place
now off to safety to be
nurtured and cherished
we feel relieved~yet sad to see her go
may she have a long, blessed life

Tonight, as we came home from town
dusk settling on the golden pastures
we saw them~not together~but solitary
the first a surprise
the second a delight
the third felt like a blessing
What message is Coyote
sending us today?

Dead branches
embracing the rising sun
golden glow
~

A flawless night,
brilliant moon, velvet sky, cricket song
yet in my minds eye I see
not my many blessings
but the destroyed lives in Oklahoma
thinking that as I am enjoying
this peaceful, tranquil setting
~across the country far away
lives are mourned, homes are lost
pets have died, no rest for anyone
there tonight, just chaos and destruction
no warm, soft bed to rest in, no calm
nothing the same, not after today
those are my thoughts on this~
my own flawless night, guilt at my
own good fortune will accompany
me to my bed tonight.
~
Holding those who lost all
in our heart and thoughts
sending prayers their way
across the miles

Where did our summer go?
Suddenly blown away by howling winds
dancing trees outlined against a darkening sky
wind chimes wildly clanging a discordant tune
mournful song whistling through the window not quite shut
Mother Nature in one of her moods~her temper flares
I sit quietly, clutching my cup of evening tea
a bit nervous of her power~ the big trees
surrounding and sheltering us from summer's heat
now a worry, will they withstand her fury?

Solar stars
spill across
the path
*
All day they gather sun rays storing them within
when darkness falls they paint our paths with stars
spilling their golden treasure~ bringing light into our night.

Do fairies dance in those golden rays
absorbing both moonlight and sunlight
is their magic thus doubly blessed ?

May 26th, 2013

We savor our evening meal
outside as dusk draws near
the sun~a golden eye
peers through pine branches
one last time
we pause to bid it adieu
as it slips down behind the hills
on it's way
to grace your day

May 13th, 2013

Pale blue sky
like a giant inland sea
clouds appear
like coral reefs
white fingers
abstract shapes
form then disolve
like an ever changing
seascape~yet resting
firmly rooted on the hills

May 14th, 2013

As I am lifting my arms~
pinning a late load of laundry
on the line~ next to Oberon
one of our Heritage sized oaks
I wonder will moonlight instill
a bit of magic in these clothes?
Thus far the only fairy like
beings I've seen were the Hummingbirds
hovering over the red plastic pins
looking to see if a new, exotic kind of
flower is in bloom~ eager to have a sip
I use only the wooden pins now
as the hummers have been known
to leave a little calling card
showing their displeasure at the lack
of nectar no doubt
Interesting what can come to mind
while doing mundane, mindless chores.

May 15th, 2013

They hover nearly motionless
wings dip allowing turns
riding the warm thermals
the ritual of one last flight
before it's time to roost
~
Each evening we watch
envying their effortless flight
the freedom they must feel
gliding in mindful circles
around and around ~trance like
whirling dervishes in the sky
~

May 16th, 2013

Sudden cloudburst
leaves dance with joy
as they receive the benediction
all glows gilded green
while rain and sun play
hide and seek

What I live for

I live each day as if it's the last, just in case. I live to read, write, enjoy nature and savor my life my husband and our four-legged ones by our side. I am on a journey, discovering things I never knew about myself. Living, growing and discovering along the way.

I live to savor nature and to share my love for it. Exploring the world and the wonders in it, even if they're just in my backyard or on our way to town.
The joy the rising sun brings, the many splendors of this amazing planet. I just love to live!!

Making new friends, moving in new directions. Weaving new threads into my life, adding color and sparkle.

I live savoring the many blessings on my life. So much to be grateful for, including the fact that though the day was a long one, I still managed to write a few lines
telling a bit of what I live for.

I live in mindfulness, like never before. And I am thankful for that!

Quiet
empty spaces
company has gone
they were much enjoyed
Solitude

******

Once again our lives run in their usual way
the hustling and bustling of enjoying friends
giving way to our quiet lives

Once again our lives run in their usual way
Gingercake, Dutch cheese and Muisje
are all that remains, showing they were here

Once again our lives run in their usual way
the memories of daytrips will linger pleasantly
and hopefully we will meet again another day

Enclosed courtyard
embraces the scent of Jasmine
we breathe deeply

#2

Delighted to find a fuzzy bumble bee
resting in the heart of a Jasmine flower
camera at hand ready to capture the moment
surprised she was so still deep in thought it seemed
zooming in the cause was quickly revealed.

At the heart of the flower death was lurking
in the form of a dainty, delicate crab spider
she waited patiently for her company to arrive
not as an honored guest at her table
instead the main course eagerly drained.
